The title for this exhibition 'Further Than Memory Can Reach' is taken from W G Sebald's book 'The Rings of Saturn.' This exhibition takes you on a journey around the grounds of Winterbourne House in Birmingham https://www.winterbourne.org.uk, from the time it was built in 1903, with some of the people who lived, worked and played there, to the present day when again we see the gardens, the visitors and its guardians.
There are also some tentative links to a few of the paintings in the collection of the Barber Institute of Fine Arts at The University of Birmingham https://barber.org.uk. This exhibition runs from February 2025 until 14th September 2025.
The sounds you hear throughout the exhibition were created by Kinna Whitehead, they frame a thought provoking walk through Winterbourne House and Garden. https://www.kinna.co.uk
